2011 Swim & Dive Teams - Camelot Knights and The Squires!

Join the Fun!

Camelot Community Club provides a summer of activity, fun and friendships through our Swim and Dive Teams.  This coming summer, our team --the Camelot Knights -- celebrates its 45th summer as part of the Northern Virginia Swim League (NVSL)! The NVSL was founded in 1956 to sponsor competitive swimming and diving in and among the community swimming pools in the Northern Virginia area.  Our teams and the entire NVSL seek to develop a love for the sport, advanced aquatic skills, teamwork, and the principles of good sportsmanship in the children participating in the programs. To join the swim or dive team at Camelot you must be a member of CCC.

The swim and dive meets begin in mid-to-late June and finish in late July

Developmental and NVSL swim meets and dive meets are held from late June through July, although some of our Knights do qualify for the NVSL All-Star meets that are held in August. We end the season with a family dinner and awards night. Social activities for kids and families are scheduled throughout the season.

Camelot Swim Team - The Knights

Children ages 5-18 are welcome to participate in the Camelot Knights. The season begins with practices immediately after Memorial Day. Daily (Mon.-Fri.) practice is held in the afternoons until school is out. Following the end of the school year, practices are held in the mornings. The morning practices are when most Knights train; however, afternoon practices are available for swimmers that are not able to attend morning practices.

The Knights participate in two different level meets, the “A” and the “B” (also known as the "Developmental”) meets. Swimmers compete by stroke in age groups beginning at 8 & Under up to the 15-18 category. Participation in the “A” meets is determined by the coaches, by looking at times and ability. The “B” meets are open to all swimmers although a swimmer that placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd in an event in the prior “A” meet may not swim that event at the “B” meet.  “A” meets are typically held on Saturday mornings while “B” meets are typically held on Monday nights.

Camelot Swim Team - The Squires

The swim team program includes a special section for our youngest members and is geared toward newer swimmers. Those in the 5-7 age range are invited to be part of The Squires team. Older 4 yr olds may be considered if they are willing and able to follow directions and ready to learn the strokes. These “Knights-in-Waiting” will focus on learning the basics of the swim strokes and having fun. While school is in session, Squires practice will be on three consecutive Sunday afternoons. After the school year concludes, Squires practice will be every weekday morning for approximately six weeks. The Squires will have their very own meet, the “Lollipop Meet,” at the end of the season. Some Squires may be ready to participate in NVSL meets.  Participation in these meets is determined by the coaches, in conjunction with the parents.

Information about Swim Lessons for younger children can be found by visting Exercise and Swim Lessons.

Camelot Dive Team - The Knights

Children ages 5-18 are welcome to participate on the Knights Dive Team, although younger child participation is based on their ability to swim from the board to the side of the pool.

Diving is a safe, fun, and exciting sport and divers can learn new skills at every practice. Your child can learn new skills in a safe environment and develop a positive self-image; gain grace, balance, and strength; and improve sportsmanship and leadership skills. And they will learn the difference between horseplay and having fun.

There are four levels in which to compete:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT PARENT DUTIES:

NVSL swim and dive meets are organized and run by parents.  We need 30-40 parent volunteers to run each meet. Helpers are needed for many different activities, so undoubtedly there are some activities that will match your interests.  Don’t worry if you’ve “never done it” before — someone will show you how. Please see list of volunteer activities.
